To my surprise, aether was scheduled on the first day of readings. It went very well, actually! They had to do it section by section, but I'm certain I can patch together what amounts to a proof-of-concept. These guys are good.

Part of me wants to get to know the other composers around...but part of me wants to just curl up and take a break. It's a bit strange to be surrounded by folks who are mostly older than I am, in contrast to the OBFCS, where I was probably in the middle of the pack, age-wise. I have to switch gears a bit, be a different kind of social.

My plan is to have a quiet dinner, then head over to a little composers' session at around 7pm.

I'm still getting used to not dropping three hours from my clocks.

Yay! Finally! How good are the Gregg Smith singers? Do you have any points of comparison?

Also, let me know about the funding thing if you don't like that recording.

They're very good -- certainly better than I had feared. They've taken a lot of hard pieces today and sight-read them...with trouble spots, of course. They've been around for quite a while, apparently -- 50 years -- and reportedly were close to Stravinsky at some point.

I met Gregg Smith at a reception for a new music concert in NYC last spring. He was nice and quite interesting, but I'm afraid he spilled quite a lot of food on himself, and talked with his mouth full.

Ah. Well, he does seem to be getting on there in years...

This recording will not be sufficient, so I'll still look into your plan -- but the reading does prove that it is quite possible for well-trained singers, which will help convince whomever we try to hire that it's certainly doable.

Yes, it is possible. If I said otherwise, I was being a little bitch. And I suppose I shouldn't slam you as hard as I sometimes do for its difficulty. However, I reserve the right to maintain that it is still quite hard. ;)

Go ahead and uber-social yourself...I promise a week of silence.

Well, silence and the wiggly dance.

Okay, silence, the wiggly dance, and profanities throughout Harvest Moon.

Awesome. I'll want to hear the result if you and [livejournal.com profile] wavyarms pull it together.
