Proposal: Art should be created without the expectation of material compensation.

True or false?

Commonplace attitude or not?



[EDIT: This is not intended to imply that something created for with such an expectation cannot be art, though I may propose that sometime later.]

I never claimed that it was great. The question (one I suppose I already asked and you answered) is, "Is the value of art solely predicated on the number of people who experience and understand it?"

I just don't know how else to place a value on art. And obviously, we need some way of seperating art we're going to pay for from art we aren't, or we'll either end up all starving, or paying no one for art.
