I learned the word columbarium recently too; P was a trad Catholic and studied to be a priest, and one of the things he absolutely loved was all the death rituals; he knows a ton about that kind of terminology and technology around death. When we were in California a couple months ago we visited the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, which is a magnificent multifaith place of worship and contains intense columbaria and crypts in a gorgeous, airy space.
