On a Plain
Something in the Way
Lithium (live)
Come As You Are (live)
Well, I was a little hasty when I said last week that it'll be consistently grim for a while.
I like Nirvana, and they're obviously a pretty important band. This pack is being released to coincide with the 20th anniversary release of Nevermind.
I didn't realize before how simply their songs are structured: for example, in "Heart-Shaped Box", the verses consist of the same melody being repeated four times, and the choruses feature another melody sung twice. But rather than feel monotonous, this gives their songs an obsessive, monomaniacal feel, and the constant repetition keeps adding weight and power rather than dissipating it.
