Jan. 11th, 2010 09:20 pmSo here's something cool: I'm getting to finally do actual Sound Design at work! I'm on the in-game fx team, coming up with the noises that play when you miss a note, fail out of a song, deploy Overdrive, etc.
Of course, I'm being thrown into the deep end; having never done it before, I need to come up with a bunch of stuff by...um...Friday. Whoa. And it's both a plus and minus to be surrounded by wicked talented people who've done this before; it's intimidating to be around, for example, the guy who did sounds for System Shock 2, but it means there are also lots of folks to go to for advice and help.
It's not clear to me that I'd want to do this for a living, particularly because it's already taken time and energy away from composing. But it's an awesome opportunity to build skills that would be useful at other game design studios, and I'm thankful for it.
